When the church has functioned at its’ best, it has often existed more as a movemental reality and less like an institution. However, the skill-set needed to start, grow, sustain and multiply a movement is quite different than the skill set needed to lead an institution. In this Pre Conference, Mike Breen and the 3DM Team will explore the realities of leading a movement, looking at the work of the leader as well as the practical mechanics of a movement.
Missional Imagination: Unleashing The People of God to Live on Mission
How do you shift the Church to a missional posture so that every person lives on mission in community and has their own missional story to share? During this session we will cover essentials for transitioning a church in a missional direction; looking at the foundations, principles and practices that need to be considered when leading small groups and congregations to participate in God’s mission more fully.
What does it mean to havegospel-centered communities living on mission as the primary organizing structure of the Church? Is this just a semantical play on words? Are missional communities really that different than traditional “small groups”? This day of face-to-face, interactive sessions with some of the nation’s top thought-leaders and practitioners will transform your thinking about mission, discipleship and what it means to be the church. You’ll leave with next-step skills that will help move you toward health, multiplication and movement.
You will learn how to value existing church forms—attracting people to a physical church and releasing missional people into hands-on ministry. We will help you leverage the very best of the attractional and missional models to catalyze a movement of incarnational people. Every missional leader is challenged to build a framework that establishes a pathway for making disciples and developing leaders. Existing church leaders, church planters, and community leaders will be introduced to a strategy that can hold together discipleship and leadership development, while evaluating the use of resources to fuel movement.
We will also unveil a process that we take every church member through to limit consumerism, which creates only one pathway forward–The pathway of missional discipleship. It’s impossible to engage culture and ignore the needs of culture. We will discuss how to learn to “do right,” but also how a socially active missional community is a biblical part of making disciples. The result will be communities that stay on mission, a process that is easily reproducible, and a disciple making culture that increasingly loves mercy and seeks justice.
In Plain Sight: Developing a Holistic Strategy for Making Disciples in the Urban Context
American evangelicalism has been blindsided. Our cities and our world have changed. In our missional focus to reach the city, we have realized our inability to reach the entire urban context—specifically the individuals that don’t fit into the majority culture. Somehow it has been accepted to do ministry and create disciples, while ignoring certain portions that aren’t as accessible; they were quarantined and unseen. Now, however, it’s impossible to ignore what is quickly taking over. This new urban – the dense and diverse – is transforming and shaping our culture, society and neighborhoods.
As leaders, we’d be foolish to make our mission anything other than the city in its entirety- beautiful parts and complicated. There’s no more looking the other way. That is why The Rebuild Network seeks to develop a holistic strategy for discipling America’s true urban: those in plain sight.
